Indian Motorcycles has launched the newest addition to the Chief family – the Chieftain Dark Horse. Priced at Rs 31.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Chieftain Dark Horse is a bagger targeted at touring enthusiasts.
Unlike the other Chief cruisers, the Chieftain Dark Horse prefers to maintain a sober look. The fuel tank, chassis, engine, forks, fenders and the fairing are painted in matte black, contrasting beautifully with the chromed exhaust. The elegant fenders and the ‘war bonnet’ on the fender hark back to its predecessors from the 1940s. The tank-mounted instrument console integrates a digital display. The fairing also houses a Bluetooth audio system.
The Chieftain Dark Horse is powered by the traditional 1811cc air-cooled ‘Thunder-Stroke’ V-twin engine. This engine is rated at 139Nm of torque and is mated to a six-speed transmission. It rides on 16-inch spoke wheels with a dual 300mm disc brake at the front and a single 300mm disc brake at the rear. ABS is offered as standard. Other features include cruise control, keyless start, remote locking saddle bags and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
The Indian Chieftain Dark Horse is being offered with a host of optional accessories to suit customers’ taste. It competes with other cruisers like the Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special, Moto Guzzi MGX-21 and the Honda Gold Wing GL1800.
