Buoyed by the popularity of the Chief Dark Horse, Indian Motorcycles recently launched the newest addition to the Chief family of cruisers – the Chieftain Dark Horse. Unlike its other heavyweight siblings, the Chieftain Dark Horse gets a dark undertone thanks to its matt black paint scheme. Check out the detailed photo gallery of the Chieftain Dark Horse –
While we have come to associate Indian models with chrome, the Chieftain Dark Horse prefers to maintain a sober look.
The fuel tank, chassis, engine, forks, fenders and the massive fairing come coated in matte black, contrasting beautifully with the chromed exhaust.
The elegant fenders, ‘Indian’ badging on the tank and the ‘war bonnet’ on the fender hark back to the iconic Indian motorcycles of the 1940s.
The tank-mounted console gets a digital display. The fairing also houses a Bluetooth audio system and dual high-output speakers.
The massive fairing greatly improves the touring capabilities of the Dark Horse, thanks to its aerodynamic shape and adjustable windshield.
The hard saddlebags are mounted on quick release anchors and feature remote locking. They also integrate additional 100W speakers.
The Chieftain Dark Horse is powered by the traditional 111 cubic inch or 1811cc ‘Thunder-Stroke’ V-twin engine.
This air-cooled 49-degree twin-cylinder engine is rated at 139Nm of torque and comes mated to a six-speed transmission.
Indian also offer an optional Big Sucker air intake and a slip-on exhaust system to offer better performance and a 'thundering rumble'.
Quite obviously, the Indian Chieftain Dark Horse comes in a single paint scheme, though you can personalise it with a host of accessories.
