Following the price announcement in December, Indian Motorcycle has now officially launched the all-new FTR 1200 S and the FTR 1200 S Race Replica in India. The motorcycles have been priced at Rs 15.99 lakhs and Rs 17.99 lakhs, respectively (both ex-showroom). Compared to the previous prices, the standard model has received a hike of Rs 1 lakh while the Race Replica has experienced a substantial hike of Rs 2.5 lakhs.
The Indian FTR 1200 is a flat-tracker styled motorcycle that draws its design cues from the championship-winning FTR 750 race bike. Its flat tracker platform has been extensively developed and tested rigorously to offer excellent performance on the street. The FTR is built around a trellis frame offering a sporty riding stance. The bike’s fuel tank has been innovatively positioned under the seat to attain a lower centre of gravity and more centralized weight distribution. The design is completed with the use of ProTaper flat tracker aluminium handlebar to complete its look.
On the engine front, the FTR series is powered by a potent 1,203cc liquid-cooled V-twin mill that is rated to punch out 121bhp of max power and 120Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties are handled by a six-speed gearbox. The bike’s airbox is located on top of the motor, just like the FTR 750 race bike to optimize airflow and maximize power.
In terms of cycle parts, the FTR 1200 models are suspended by inverted forks at the front and monoshock for the rear. The rear suspension and swingarm design have been derived yet again from the FTR750. The motorcycle rides on 19-inch front and 18-inch rear alloy wheels shod with newly-developed Dunlop street tyres with flat track-inspired tread. For braking, the FTR employs 320mm dual disc with radially mounted Brembo caliper for the front and a 265mm disc with a two-piston caliper at the back.
The FTR motorcycle series comes with three rider modes (Sport, Standard and Rain) along with features like a 4.3-inch customizable Ride Command LCD touch screen with Bluetooth connectivity, traction control, lean-angle sensitive stability control, ABS, wheelie mitigation control and cruise control.
Along with the launch of the FTR model, Indian Motorcycle also announced its tie-up with Orix India for leasing of Indian motorcycles making the American brand more accessible to biking enthusiasts.
