Indian FTR 1200-based adventure bike likely to debut next year

- Indian likely to introduce FTR 1200-based adventure bike next year

- To be powered by the same 1203cc engine with tweaked cycle parts

- Will compete against the Harley-Davidson Pan America 

Indian Motorcycle has been working on the FTR 1200-based streetfighter and adventure motorcycle, as we had reported in April this year. Interestingly, a new report now suggests that the ADV in question will make its global debut next year.

The folks at BikeSocial  have managed to get their hands on a document which confirms that an FTR 1200-based adventure model is in the offing. The motorcycle will be powered by the same 1203cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC, V-twin motor which does duty on the FTR 1200. It churns out 125bhp of power and 117.9Nm of peak torque on the FTR, but it might be tuned differently to suit the ADV’s character. 

Needless to mention the adventure motorcycle will witness major changes to its cycle parts over its flat tracker sibling. It will be equipped with long-travel suspension setup, different sub-frame and dual purpose tyres. In order to take on varied terrains, the ADV will also have a higher ground clearance. Further adding to its adventure credentials will be a raised handlebar, provisions for mounting luggage, knuckle guards and a bash plate.

With the growing popularity of adventure motorcycles across the globe, American manufacturers are also now moving towards this segment, which would majorly focus on cruisers and tourers before. Besides Indian, yet another prominent example of this is Harley-Davidson which is all set to introduce its first adventure motorcycle, the Pan America, next year. That said, the introduction of an Indian adventure offering will make 2020 an interesting year as it will see two major American leisure motorcycle brands venturing into the ADV segment.
