- Polaris could shift Indian Motorcycles production to Poland
- Being done to beat the EU import tariff hike
- Harley-Davidson will also move some production out of US
Polaris Industries is considering shifting some of the Indian Motorcycles production from Iowa plant to Poland. Just last week Harley-Davidson too had announced to shift some of its production out of US to escape the increased EU import tariffs.
Two big motorcycles brands like Harley-Davidson and Indian Motorcycles have caught in between trade war that erupted after Trump administration imposed some restrictions on the import of European steel and aluminium. To counter this move, EU raised import tariffs on my commodities including motorcycles, making it practically impossible for American makers to sell bikes in Europe and still be profitable.
“Polaris has been supportive of the Administration’s pro-growth agenda, such as tax and regulatory reform that promote a robust economy and global competitiveness for all US manufacturers. However, the escalating trade war has the potential to erase the benefits Polaris received and the recent EU retaliatory tariffs have required us to expend time, energy and resources to evaluate mitigation plans, including the possibility of moving production of the Indian motorcycles that are destined for Europe from Iowa to our facility in Poland," said Polaris Industries in a statement.
Polaris currently manufactures off-road vehicles in the Poland facility. If the American maker decides to shift European production to this plant, then it might help the company minimise the overall loses.
