The latest addition the Indian motorcycles line up was the Springfield. And it seems the range is now complete. In a detailed interview, Peter Alexander, Managing Director of Polaris Australia and New Zealand has confirmed that there won’t be any smaller or new platform based motorcycles.
“Springfield completes the range,” he said. “No doubt there will always be new products, but no new platforms, only slight variations.” Peter also gave a firm “no” to the question about a possible sub-650cc motorcycle for Australia. He added, “Not until there is another big market somewhere in the world for sub-650cc bike.” He also said that the current smallest engine (983cc Scout Sixty) in their line- up cannot be lowered in terms of capacity.
Indian motorcycles has been launching special edition models, the latest one being the Indian Scout limited edition. He says, “We’re also doing a few special edition bikes with white wall tyres, special paint and spoked wheels because more and more Scouts we sell are being customised.”
In five years, Peter believes Polaris will sell 10,000 units a year, up from about 6210 last year (5,095 Polaris, 734 Indian and 381 Victory). “Polaris pays the bills,” he said.
Indian Motorcycles recently launched the Springfield at Rs 30.60 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). This makes the Springfield the seventh Indian model to be sold in the country.
