Indian Motorcycles has issued a recall for their flagship touring motorcycle, the Roadmaster in the USA.
The recall which will be initiated from today affects 7,392 units of the Roadmaster that were manufacturer between 2015 and 2017. The cause of the recall is faulty sealing plugs in the wiring harness which is prone to water. The sealing plugs on the harness do not seal properly, resulting in the brake light to short-circuit and malfunction.
According to the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, USA), this could pose a threat to the rider as the brake light would remain on even when not engaged. Indian Motorcycles will replace the faulty wiring harness with a new one that contains sealing plugs in the connectors, free of charge.
Indian Motorcycles has not commented on the US recall affecting the bikes sold in India. While the Indian Roadmaster retails at a price of Rs 38.75 lakhs, the manufacturer will soon launch the Roadmaster Elite in India with an expected price of around Rs 45 lakhs ex-showroom. With bookings already commenced, only one unit of the limited-edition bike has been allotted to the country.
