- Three rounds of off-road motorcycle racing
- Six teams battle it out across four categories
- Indian and international riders to compete
The first ever Indian Supercross Racing League (ISRL), an off-road motorcycle racing event, will be held this weekend in Pune, Maharashtra. It is the world’s first franchise-based supercross league, similar to what we see in cricket with the Indian Premier League (IPL). In the case of the Indian Supercross Racing League, there are six teams who will compete across four categories - 450cc International, 250cc International, 250cc India & Asia and 85cc India & Asia.
As is evident from the names of the categories, riders from India and abroad will battle it out to score maximum points during each round. At the end of the three rounds, the rider and team with the highest points take home the crown of the champion.
The six teams that are participating in the ISRL are - Gujarat Trailblazers, BB Racing, SG Speed Racers, Bigrock Motorsports, Mohite’s Racing Team and Reise Motorsports. These teams are backed by big names in the field of motorsport. Multiple car rally champion Gaurav Gill is one of the partners in Team Gujarat Trailblazers. On the other hand, Bigrock Motorsports is owned by CS Santosh, an icon of Indian motorsport and Dakar finisher.
As for the riders, there’s a mix of experienced and young talents in each team. Among these, multi-time French Supercross Racing Champion Thomas Ramette will be racing for Reise Motorsport in the 450cc class. In the 250cc Indian and Asia mix category, India’s Ikshan Shanbhag from Team Bigrock Motorsports will be one of the promising youngsters to look out for. Speaking of, the ISRL will also serve as a platform for budding talents to showcase their skills. Some of the riders in the 85cc Junior category are just 10-12 years old kids but they are sure to captivate the audience with their speed and agility.
After Pune, the next round will be held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat and the last round will be conducted in Delhi. Those who wish to watch the races can do so by purchasing tickets online. The ISRL will also be broadcasted live on television on Sports 18 or can be streamed on your mobile device with the Jio Cinema app. Races begin at 7pm.
