Indimotard Racing has become the first Indian team to compete in and finish the SCORE Baja 1000 rally. The team competed in the Sportsman Moto category, crossing the chequered flag in the 19th position in the class.
Indimotard Racing finished the rally with an overall time of 45 hours 54 minutes. The team finished 19th out of the 27 competitors in his class, astride a 2014 KTM 500 XC-W. To tackle the challenges presented by the rally, the motorcycle featured upgrades like mousse-filled tyres, a bigger fuel tank, flexible levers, a skid plate and a radiator guard. The engine received a performance bump with racing ECU and spark plug and a performance exhaust. The team consisted of Nick Sarao, Anand Dharmaraj, Aditya Devabhaktun and Ilyas Bham.
The Baja 1000 is regarded as one of the most gruelling and prestigious endurance races of its kind. The 2017 Baja 1000 marked the 50th anniversary of the iconic rally. Conducted over 1000 kilometres, the Baja 1000 was flagged off in Ensenada and concluded at La Paz, in Mexico. A total of 406 vehicles, including cars, motorcycles and trucks, participated in the rally this year, of which only 205 managed to inch across the finish line.
