Indimotard Racing has announced its participation in the 2017 Baja 1000, making it the first Indian racing team to compete in the off-road endurance rally.
The Baja 1000 is run over a 1000 kilometre loop commencing and ending in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico. Indimotard will be competing in the motorcycle category, astride a 2014 KTM 500 XC-W. The motorcycle has been upgraded in order to tackle the challenges presented by the Baja 1000. It will feature mousse-filled tyres, a bigger fuel tank, flexible levers, a skid plate and a radiator guard. To improve the performance, the engine gets a racing ECU and spark plug, along with a performance exhaust.
Indimotard Racing is renowned for its performance motorcycle builds and even has a racing school for track riders. For now, the team consists of Gurpinder Sarao, Anand Dharmaraj, Aditya Devabhaktun and Ilyas Bham. While all of these are Indians, most of them currently reside in the UK and the US. All these competitors are experienced riders and three of them have even scored multiple podium finishes in the Raid-de-Himalaya. This year’s Baja 1000 will mark the 50th anniversary of the iconic rally, and will be conducted between 14 November and 18 November.
