There's a new Bonneville family from Triumph, and there's good news: it will come to India. The really good news is that they're smaller (900 cc), equally customisable as the larger Bonnies (over 150 accessories available) and this can only mean one thing: more affordable Bonnevilles for us!
This new 900cc Bonneville family will be called the T100 family, and it will sport a 900cc engine with just 54bhp, but there's a reassuring 80Nm accompanying it. There's nothing fancy about the T100 except for a clutch that has light lever action thanks to 'torque assist clutch' technology. Of course, the standard suite of ABS, switchable traction control and ride-by-wire throttle are present, as is a USB charging socket. The motorcycles themselves are smaller than the T120s - they have a shorter wheelbase, rake and trail. There's also a lower seat, no doubt to help those in markets like SE Asia.
The instrumentation shows which gear you've selected, odo reading, twin trip meters, DTE, fuel level, average and instant fuel consumption, traction control settings, clock, and a service indicator. Speaking of which, service is now every 16000 km in Europe, which might be lower for India but still a very car-like figure.
If you're a fan of black, you can have the T100 Black, which is - no points for guessing - black all over, including the rims, exhausts and engine covers. You can also have a regular one in black, confusingly enough, with a brown seat and the bits mentioned above in chrome. So it is black, but not all black.
If you want a cafe racer, worry not, there's the Street Cup - and we have to admit that it's the most fetching of the lot by a country mile, especially in the Racing Yellow. We can't wait for these more accessible, more rideable family of motorcycles to go on sale here - expect them sometime next year.
