- IDP can now be renewed from abroad
- No need of medical certificate, visa
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has made a big development for Indians who travel overseas quite a lot. The citizens can now renew the International Driving Permit (IDP) even when abroad.
This new provision will help those citizens whose driving licence gets expired while travelling in other countries. Through this new process, they will be able to apply for renewed IDP through embassies who will in turn pass on this application to VAHAN portal where the necessary processes will be completed. Once the application is processed, the new IDP will be couriered to the citizen’s registered home address.
Also, there’s no need to provide medical certificate and visa documents while applying for new IDP anymore. MoRTH believes that there’s no need of new medical certificate when the person already has a valid driving licence. Plus, the visa aspect doesn’t work as there are many countries where there are visa on arrival services.
