The Jawa 42 FJ has been launched in India recently and it sits at the top of Jawa’s 42 range in India. The ‘FJ’ bears a few notable differences between itself and the Jawa 42. Here’s all you need to know.
Design
The Jawa 42 FJ and the Jawa 42 are modern-retro-styled motorcycles but that’s where the similarities end. The ‘FJ’ has a more sportier bent in its design. This is evident in the shape of the fuel tank with the aluminium cladding or the multi-spoke alloy wheels and the upswept exhaust pipes.
The Jawa 42, meanwhile, has a more classic-bike appearance. The teardrop-shaped fuel tank, the cladding around the telescopic fork, halogen headlight or the exhaust pipes that run parallel to the ground. They all show the more traditional positioning of the bike in comparison to the more modern-looking 42 FJ.
Engines
The Jawa 42 FJ is powered by a 334cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that makes 28.7bhp and 29.62Nm. It is paired with a six-speed gearbox.
The Jawa 42, on the other hand, has a 294.7cc, liquid-cooled engine. It is called the J-panther and it makes 27bhp which is slightly lower than the 42 FJ’s. This engine is also linked with a six-speed gearbox.
Colours
The Jawa 42 is available in as many as seven new colours. These include Orion Red Matte, Odyssey Black, Vega White and Nebula Blue.
The Jawa 42 FJ has a more premium finish to its paint. It is available in five new colours. These are called Aurora Green Matte, Mystique Copper, Cosmo Blue Matte, Deep Black/Matte Black Clad and Deep Black/Matte Red Clad.
Chassis
Both motorcycles have a double cradle frame. In the case of the Jawa 42, however, the frame is suspended by a 35mm telescopic fork and twin, gas-charged shock absorbers. The bike rides on an 18–inch front and 17-inch rear wheel setup. The 42, however, has narrower rubber than the tyres on the 42 FJ.
Speaking of, the Jawa 42 FJ has a fatter, 41mm telescopic fork and a five-step, preload adjustable shock absorbers. The front and rear tyres, as we’ve mentioned are wider with the rear one being a 140-section tyre.
Price
The Jawa 42 is priced at Rs 1.73 lakh while the Jawa 42 FJ will set you back by Rs 1.99 lakh. These are the starting, ex-showroom prices.
