In one of our previous stories, we pitted the newly launched Jawa 42 FJ against the Royal Enfield Classic 350. Now, the Classic is not the only contender on the list, we also have the Hunter 350. So, let's fair the Jawa 42 FJ against the Royal Enfield Hunter 350 on paper.
Design
Both motorcycles look old-school and feature retro elements like a round headlight, a single-piece seat, and a simple design overall. The Jawa 42 FJ’s dual exhaust setup gives it more mass and visual appearance though.
Features
Jawa has equipped the 42 FJ with an LED headlight, dual-channel ABS, and a fully digital instrument console. Meanwhile, the Hunter 350 gets a halogen headlight, single as well as dual channel ABS options, and a semi-digital console. You can opt for smartphone connectivity with the Tripper navigation pod, but that comes at an additional cost.
Engine
The Jawa 42 FJ uses a 334cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine. It makes 28.7bhp and 29.62Nm and gets a six-speed gearbox. This is the brand’s recently introduced motor that we have also seen on the Jawa 350. The Royal Enfield Hunter 350 is powered by the trusty J-series 349cc, single-cylinder, engine and it belts out 20.2bhp at 6,100rpm and 27Nm at 4,000rpm. However, the Hunter gets a five-speed gearbox. The Jawa offering not only gets modern architecture for its motor but also higher power figures and an additional cog.
Hardware
Both bikes ride on fairly simple suspension setup – telescopic front forks and dual rear springs. Their braking hardware comprises a single front and rear disc with ABS. However, you can purchase the Hunter 350’s base trim with rear drum brake and single-channel ABS. Both brands offer the option of spoke wheels with tubed tyres and alloy wheels with tubeless rubber.
Price
The asking price for the Jawa 42 FJ is set at Rs. 1.99 lakh for the spoke wheel model and Rs. 2.20 lakh (both ex-showroom, Delhi), whereas the Hunter 350’s base trim costs Rs. 1.49 lakh and the most expensive one retails at Rs. 1.75 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). While the Hunter costs less, it also gets relatively fewer power figures and features. On the other hand, the Jawa 42 FJ costs more, and offers more but is yet to be tested and proven in the real world.
