With JK Tyre recently entering the two-wheeler segment, it will tie up with Suzuki Two Wheelers India to form a new one-make series called the Suzuki Gixxer Cup 2017. It will be part of the National Racing Championship.
The series will have two categories, one with 12-16 year old riders and another with riders more than 16 years old. The 'young rookie' (12-16 year olds) category will also be a feeder for the Red Bull 'Road to Rookies' Cup. The winner will get to participate in the selection for the Road to Rookies Cup - Road to MotoGP in Spain. The remaining category will be part of the Suzuki Gixxer Cup, and nearly 25 hopefuls will be selected to race in the national championship.
Selection rounds will be held in four different cities. Bengaluru (June 4), Aizawl (June 10), Pune (June 18) and the NCR (June 25). Applicants need to register themselves and show up on the designated day at the designated time. They will be provided Gixxers and participate in shootouts. There will also be a personality test by JK Motorsport. The shortlisted bikers will be announced on June 27, and will be part of a training programme in Coimbatore where they will endeavour to get better.
The idea behind this is an all-round approach to the future racer: grooming them in terms of personality, riding and fitness so they emerge as world-class racers.
