John McGuiness has reclaimed his title in the Senior TT class of the Isle of Man TT, setting an outright lap record for the mountain course in the process. The 43-year-old Brit recorded an average speed of 213.56kmph, beating the previous record set by Ian Hutchinson by a mere 0.648kmph.
While the Senior TT race was started precisely at 12.30 am, 24-year-old Jamie Hamilton suffered a serious crash halfway through the circuit, resulting in the race being red flagged. Ian Hutchinson had taken the lead, before the red flags came out in the second lap, signalling a stop to the race.
The race was restarted at 2.45 pm with the total number of laps reduced from six to four. McGuiness set the pace on his Honda Fireblade as soon as the race was restarted, setting the record in the second lap. He went on to equal Mike Hailwood’s record of winning seven Senior TT races, beating Kawasaki's James Hillier by 14.2 seconds. Hutchinson scored his fifth podium of the 2015 edition, by finishing third on his PBW Kawasaki.
