The Aspar Ducati team has announced that Czech rider Karel Abraham will fill the second seat alongside Alvaro Bautista for the 2017 season of MotoGP. This leaves Yonny Hernandez without a ride in MotoGP for the next season.
Abraham is no stranger to MotoGP - he has ridden a Ducati before in the series before switching to WSBK, but his appointment then raised a few eyebrows - at that point he had won only a single Moto2 race. His results in WSBK are similar, him finishing inside the top ten only once all season. His teammate at Milwaukee BMW, Josh Brookes, has had much better results.
The reality of racing is that it is expensive, and teams will look for money through a lot of ways. Rider sponsors are one way, and Abraham is the son of the owner of the Brno circuit, so he brings money along with his appointment to the team. The shakeup among the top teams is what has us excited for the 2017 MotoGP season; but more on that later.
