India Kawasaki Motors has launched the ER-6n, the naked version of the Ninja 650 at Rs 4.78 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The ER-6n is the first Kawasaki motorcycle in India which isn’t part of the Z or the Ninja family.
Cosmetically, the major difference between ER-6n and the Ninja 650 is the absence of the full-fairing that makes the ER-6n slightly intriguing. However, majority of the components of both these bikes are same like the fuel-tank, tail section, seats, rear view mirrors and wheels. The ER-6n also gets a new instrument cluster which looks very modern.
The ER-6n is powered by a 649cc liquid-cooled four-stroke parallel twin engine that develops 72bhp at 8500 rpm and peak torque of 64Nm at 7000 rpm. The engine of the bike is mated to a six-speed gearbox that transfers power to the rear wheel via chain drive. Being a street naked bike, we were expecting the engine will be re-tuned to suit its nature but Kawasaki has confirmed that it’s the same engine as the Ninja 650 and no changes have been made. The gear ratios are exactly the same like the Ninja 650. ABS is absent in this variant but Kawasaki might offer it in future.
The Kawasaki ER-6n will be sold in India through pro-biking and Kawasaki showrooms via completely-knocked-down (CKD) route. The bike will be available only in one colour- black and depending on the demand, the Japanese manufacturer might introduce more colours.
