Kawasaki has filed trademark applications for the ‘Meguro’ name in the US, Europe, Australia and Philippines.
The Meguro brand name holds a significant importance in Japan as well as to Kawasaki. Founded in 1937, it participated in racing events and even supplied the police and military with motorcycles. It was also Japan’s second largest motorcycle manufacturer with a portfolio that included bikes ranging from 50cc to 500cc. In 1960, Meguro went bankrupt following which Kawasaki acquired the company and released bikes like the W1, the forerunner of the modern-day W800.
While details are still unknown, the ‘Meguro’ is likely to be either a sub-brand that would consist of modern-retro bikes or a new bike itself. If it is the latter, the bike is likely to be a sub-500cc motorcycle based on the Z400 platform.
