Kawasaki India has started delivering the Ninja 400 at certain cities. The first bike was delivered to a customer in Mumbai yesterday.
The Ninja 400 is replacing the Ninja 300 in most of the global markets, but is sold alongside the Ninja 300 in India. It’s priced at Rs 4.69 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi), making it an absurdly priced motorcycle, but it’s interesting to see that this Kawasaki is finding some takers. This could be possible because of its Ninja ZX-10R design inspiration that makes the bike look really aggressive and attractive.
The Japanese manufacturer has equipped the Ninja 400 with LED headlamp, position lamps and tail lamp. The body panels on the Ninja 400 aren’t just bigger, but sharper too. The Ninja 400 is built around a new chassis which is lighter and stiffer than the Ninja 300, which is expected to offer great handling. The other major update on this bike is its engine, the 399cc parallel-twin. This motor churns out 47.5bhp and 38Nm of peak power. Despite the increase in displacement, the overall weight of the engine has reduced by one kilogram. This engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox. Slipper-clutch comes as standard on the Ninja 400. The Ninja 400 rides on 41mm telescopic forks in the front and a monoshock at the rear. The braking duties are taken care of by a 310mm front disc and 220mm disc at the rear. ABS is standard.
For now, Kawasaki is only selling the KRT edition and in limited numbers. The company claims that the Ninja 300 won’t be discontinued in India as it has a big fan following. If the Ninja 400 doesn’t find many takers, Kawasaki might drop the price to make it more attractive to the Indian buyer.
