Kawasaki India eyes 25 per cent market share by 2015

India Kawasaki Motors is aiming to achieve 25 per cent market share in the superbike category by 2015. This announcement was confirmed during the launch of their latest model, the Z800 in New Delhi. 

The company that has got majority of its range in India and is looking to sell around 1,500-1,800 bikes in 2014 out of which, 400 units are expected to be from the completely-built-up (CBU) range like the Ninja ZX-10R and Ninja ZX-14R.Currently all the models are sold through Kawasaki’s exclusive dealership in Pune and New Delhi. However, the company is currently doing a feasibility study to expand their dealer network. Kawasaki is planning to have around five dealers. 

Kawasaki India might start assembling the superbikes in India if it manages to generate sales volumes of about 160-200 units in next few years. The company is looking at higher volumes to justify the local production of super bikes.

"We are looking at sales of 1,500-1,800 bikes in India in 2014. Of these, around 400 are expected to be in the superbike range that is fully imported. We have a strong portfolio of superbikes and aim to capture 25 per cent of the Indian market by 2015," said Shigeto Nishikawa, deputy managing director, IKM.

"We are currently studying the options for the establishing a wider dealer network across the country. By the end of 2015, we plan to have around five dealers," he added.
