India Kawasaki Motors is planning to launch the ER6n motorcycle during the festive season this year, a source informs us. Currently, the company is training its technicians on the Z250, which is expected to launch in June or July. Soon after the training is done, the company will switch its focus to the ER-6n.
Like we have mentioned before, the ER-6n will be sold in India through the completely-knocked-down (CKD) route with the assembling duty done at the company’s Akurdi facility. India will get the 2014 version of the bike that was showcased at the 2014 Bangkok Motor Show. This street-fighter motorcycle is nothing but a naked version of the Ninja 650. We find this bike more attractive than its faired sibling, thanks to the exposed engine area and visible tubular diamond frame.
The Kawasaki ER-6n is powered by a 649cc liquid-cooled four-stroke parallel twin engine that develops 72bhp at 8500 rpm and a peak torque of 64Nm at 7000 rpm. The engine of the bike is mated to a six-speed gearbox. For international markets like Europe, the Japanese manufacturer offers two variants- ABS and non-ABS. But for the Indian market, the non-ABS variant will be launched as an ABS variant will increase the cost, thereby reflecting a not-so-impressive ex-showroom price. But you can expect the price of this bike to be marginally lower than the Ninja 650. There is currently only one motorcycle in the segment, the Hyosung GT650N.
