Kawasaki has officially unveiled the KLX 230 dual-sport motorcycle in India. Bookings for the motorcycle are open at Rs. 5,000 and it is expected to be launched in December, perhaps at the India Bike Week 2024.
The Kawasaki KLX 230 features a purposeful yet minimalist styling. It gets a stubby headlight cowl, high-set beak fender, a small 7.6-litre fuel tank, and a sleek tail. The saddle height stands at 880mm, which is quite tall for an average Indian rider.
Powering the Kawasaki KLX 230 is a 233cc, air-cooled engine that produces 18bhp at 8,000rpm and a peak torque of 18.3Nm at 6,400rpm. The single-cylinder motor is paired with a six-speed gearbox. The engine is claimed to offer good low and mid-range performance.
The KLX 230 is underpinned by a tubular steel frame, suspended on 37mm telescopic front forks and a linkage-type rear monoshock. The suspension offers a wheel travel of 240mm at the front and 250mm at the rear.
The bike rides on a 21/18-inch front and rear wheel combination, shod with MRF dual-purpose tyres. It has a ground clearance of 265mm and tips the scales at 139kg. These aspects should make for a friendly off-road bike.
Feature-wise, it gets an LED headlamp and a digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity. Meanwhile, braking duties are handled by a 265mm front disc and a 220mm rear disc. The KLX 230 comes with switchable ABS, which allows the rider to lock the rear wheel and slide the bike while riding off-road.
The Kawasaki KLX 230 will be available in two colour options – Lime Green and Battle Gray. The dual-sport motorcycle will compete against the Hero Xpulse 200 4V.
