The electric motorcycles segment has caught the interest of Kawasaki. It was bound to happen as a lot of other bike manufacturers have released their take on the segment. Now, a couple of images have been leaked online, which shows the patent drawings of a new Kawasaki electric motorcycle. This is will be a first from the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer
While Morebikes - the website that leaked these images said that this is based on the Ninja ZX-10R, we believe it is the Ninja 300. Firstly, the overall body proportions resemble the smaller Ninja. Secondly, there are things like the alloy wheels, fascia, single front disc, telescopic forks, box section swingarm and the entire tail section which looks like the ones we’ve seen on the Ninja 300.
As per the patent drawings, Kawasaki doesn’t plan to change the dimensions of the baby Ninja to accommodate an electric motor and the battery pack. Interestingly, the entire battery compartment could be removed with ease from the left side. Looks like Kawasaki wants to change the way electric motorcycles are operated on the roads. While this sounds quite fancy and friendly, there will be a lot of operational and logistical problems.
We are expecting Kawasaki to unveil this new Ninja 300 electric bike at the upcoming 2015 EICMA show. And if you are one of those guys who want to see this bike in India, then we have to disappoint you: it will never come to India. Not for the next five years, at least.
