- Teaser video hints at Ninja 400 BS6 launch
- Likely to be available in limited numbers
- Euro5-compliant model makes 44bhp and 37Nm
Kawasaki India has released a teaser video for a new model that will be launched in our market very soon. While the company has not released the finer details, the teaser video indicates that the Japanese two-wheeler brand will launch the BS6-compliant Ninja 400 in the Indian market. It is to be noted that the previous fully-faired model was sold in the Indian market in limited numbers. The BS6-compliant version, too, is likely to arrive in limited numbers.
The Euro5-compliant version, which is equivalent to BS6 emission norms, is already available in the international markets. The latest iteration of the Ninja 400 continues to use the 399cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine that makes 44bhp and 37Nm of peak torque. The power output remains unchanged, although the torque has come down by 1Nm over the predecessor. Further, the six-speed gearbox continues to use the slipper clutch mechanism.
The changes are limited to mechanical upgrades to comply with the newest emission norms. The design, on the other hand, remains unchanged, and the Ninja 400 continues to pack the Ninja H2-inspired styling. This includes a sharp twin-pod headlight, fairing-integrated front turn indicators, fairing-mounted rear-view mirrors, muscular 14-litre fuel tank, split-style seat, and a side-slung exhaust with a dual-tone finish.
Internationally, the Ninja 400 is available in two colours — Lime Green with Ebony (KRT Edition) and Metallic Carbon Gray with Metallic Matte Carbon Gray. We expect to see Lime Green with Ebony (KRT Edition) in our market. The previous version was sold in the Indian market at a premium price tag of Rs 4.98 lakh (ex-showroom). We expect the new model to carry a higher price tag than its predecessor.
