Kawasaki seems to be working on a new Ninja 400 and may launch it in the coming months as a 2018 model. The bikes were spotted by a US news crew during a commercial advertisement shoot, sporting ‘Ninja 400’ on their number plate.
The manufacturer has been selling a Ninja 400 for several years in markets like Japan and Canada. The design of that model is the same as the previous-gen Ninja 650, which was a sport tourer. This new Ninja 400 seems to feature design elements from the ZX-10R and may borrow its chassis from either the existing Ninja 300 or the updated Ninja 650.
Although Kawasaki has the Ninja 300 currently, the Ninja 400 will be a fresher and a worthy competitor to its rivals, the KTM RC390 and Yamaha R3. This also means that Kawasaki may phase out the Ninja 300 to make way for a more powerful Ninja 400 in the US market. Power figures for the bike are not yet available, but it is likely that the 400 would be powered by a four-stroke parallel twin engine.
