Kawasaki’s middle-weight sports tourer, the Ninja 650, in now BS6-compliant. We recently spent some time with the bike and you can read about our experience here. Meanwhile, here are a couple of pictures from its first ride review for you to gawk at this stunning 650cc kwacker.
Amongst the host of updates the Ninja 650 has received is the revised styling. Now, it looks majorly similar to its sportier siblings, the ZX-6R and 10R, especially when viewed from the front.
Kawasaki has tweaked the front fascia of the motorcycle with a sharper-looking headlamp cluster which houses LED lights now. The fairing has also been reworked on, while the portion from the fuel tank to the tail has remained unaltered.
Despite sporting an aggressive design, the Ninja 650 justifies its tourer tag with an easy-to-reach clip-on handlebar, mildly rear-set footpegs and a cushy and roomy rider’s seat. The seat height is also quite accessible at 790mm.
The instrumentation setup has also been improved by incorporating a new TFT dash which shows plenty of info while being Bluetooth-enabled for smartphone pairing.
Powering the 2020 Ninja 650 is the same 649cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine which has been fiddled with for BS6-compliance. In spite of that, the power figures have remained nearly the same at 67.3bhp and 64Nm.
Kawasaki has also equipped the latest edition of the bike with new Dunlop Sportmax Roadsport 2 tyres which, during our stint with the bike, delivered good grip in dry conditions.
It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels which are suspended by 41mm telescopic forks and a preload-adjustable monoshock. Stopping power comes from dual 300mm rotors at the front and a single 220mm disc at the rear.
Kawasaki has priced the new Ninja 650 BS6 at Rs 6.24 lakh (ex-showroom) which makes it only Rs 34,000 more expensive than the outgoing model. In terms of purpose, displacement and body style, it goes up against the Honda CBR650R.
