-Issue with damaged spark plugs
-Could lead to unstable idle and engine stalls
-Spark plugs to be replaced free of cost
Kawasaki has recalled the Ninja ZX-4R in the US to fix an issue with damaged spark plugs. The company says that it received reports of rough and uneven idling on a few bikes and upon investigation found out that there is an issue with the spark plugs.
Apparently a few batches of spark plugs were damaged while being installed due to a problem with the tightening tool. This has led to unstable idling and there have also been reports of engine stalling due to the faulty spark plugs. This could potentially lead to a crash or fall as the engine cuts off unexpectedly, say while executing a tight U-turn.
Kawasaki says that bikes made between January 2023 and November 2023 have been affected. The remedy to the problem is simple. Authorised Kawasaki dealers will contact customers and replace the damaged spark plugs with new ones, at no cost to the customer.
Kawasaki launched the ZX-4R in India in September 2023. We shall reach out to Kawasaki India to know if any of the bikes sold in the country have been affected or not. We will update this story as and when we get that information.
To recap, the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R is the most expensive 400cc bike on sale in India, priced at Rs 8.49 lakh, ex-showroom. It is powered by a 399cc, inline-four engine that produces 79.5bhp at 14,000rpm and 37.6Nm at 12,500rpm. It has a six-speed gearbox.
The ZX-4R is one of the quickest 400cc bikes on the market, known for its rev happy engine and the inline-four sound. In India, it has no direct competition in terms of engine displacement at the price it sells at. However, pricewise, it sits in the vicinity of the Kawasaki Ninja 650 and the soon to be launched Triumph Daytona 660, which is expected to cost between the Rs 9.5 lakh to 10 lakh mark, ex-showroom.
