Kawasaki has issued a recall in the USA for the Ninja ZX-10R and Ninja ZX-10RR concerning faulty gearboxes.
Around 4,000 motorcycles built from 2016 to 2018 have been affected by this recall. According to the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) the 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear are prone to breakage under excessive force during shifting. This could result in the rider losing control of the motorcycle and crashing.
Kawasaki first discovered the issue in the Thai market where upon further investigation found that the strength of the gears was insufficient. To fix the issue, Kawasaki will notify affected owners and replace the 2nd, 3rd, 4th gears free of cost.
On the other hand, Kawasaki India has not confirmed whether the bikes sold here have been affected. Nevertheless, having your bike checked at the nearest Kawasaki service centre would be advisable.
