Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R- What to expect

With pre-bookings already commenced, Kawasaki will be launching its middle-weight Supersport, the Ninja ZX-6R, in the coming weeks. Showcased at the 2018 EICMA in Milan was the 2019 edition of the motorcycle, which is slated for launch in India. Positioned below the flagship Ninja ZX-10R, here’s what to expect from the upcoming Supersport offering.

Design

Under the latest update, the motorcycle has undergone a few styling updates but still remains a scaled-down version of the litre-class ZX-10R. Beginning from the front, it features a more sculpted design with sharper lines magnifying its aggressive appeal. The windscreen has been tweaked for better air flow while the exhaust system now features a steel finish instead of the matte black one sported by its predecessor. Moving to the rear, the tail section has been completely revamped, giving the motorcycle a compact and sleek look. The LED taillamp is inspired by the ZX-10R while the twin headlamps have been redesigned and upgraded with LED lamps.

Technology

For the 2019 edition, the ZX-6R gets a race-inspired slipper clutch with back torque limiting function to handle aggressive downshifts better while providing a light feel at the lever. Along with that, it also gets the Kawasaki Quick Shifter (KQS) as standard equipment for clutch-less upshifts. The motorcycle comes with three riding modes wherein two have been mapped for acceleration and the third one for riding stability on slippery surfaces.

Engine

Bolted onto the race-developed aluminium perimeter frame, the ZX-6R is powered by a revised 636cc liquid-cooled inline-four engine that is capable of producing 125bhp and 70.6Nm of torque. The motor comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox with revised final ratio providing stronger low-end performance for the street.

Cycle parts

The ZX-6R rides on 17-inch wheels that are mounted on adjustable Showa SFF and BPF forks up front and a fully-adjustable UNI-TRAK unit for the rear. For braking, the motorcycle comes equipped with radially-mounted monobloc calipers with 310mm twin-discs for the front. The rear features a single-piston caliper with a 220mm disc. The bike comes with Kawasaki Intelligent anti-lock Brake System (KIBS) as standard fitment.

Pricing

While Kawasaki is yet to announce the price, the motorcycle will be brought to India via the CKD route and will be assembled locally at the company’s plant in Chakan, Pune. We expect Kawasaki to price the Ninja ZX-6R between the Rs 9.5 - 10.5 lakhs bracket.
