Kawasaki has increased the production of the Ninja ZX-10RR from 500 units to 1,000 units following the high demand for the homologation model.
The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10RR was unveiled at last month’s INTERMOT Show in Italy, where the company had announced that only 500 units were to be put on sale to meet superbike racing homologation requirements. Now though, reports suggest that this number has gone up to 1,000 given the strong demand for the bike.
Powering the Ninja ZX-10RR is a 998cc inline four engine mated to a six-speed transmission. A quick shifter for clutchless upshifts and downshifts is standard, and so is a six-axis IMU which maintains control over traction control, electronic engine brake control, launch control and ABS. It rides on lightweight seven-spoke Marchesini wheels with sticky Pirelli Supercorsa SP tyres.
Kawasaki is promoting the ZX-10RR as a ‘race enabled’ motorcycle rather than ‘race ready’, which means that you can prep it with a race kit. For those opting for the Race Kit, Kawasaki offers the engine with a modified cylinder head to accommodate high lift cams and reinforced crankcase. All of this tech wizardry and weight saving has helped Kawasaki shave off two seconds a lap at the Autopolis test track in Japan.
The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10RR is priced at USD 18,899 (Rs 12.77 lakh). While homologation special models usually cost over USD 6,000 more than their standard counterparts, the Ninja ZX-10RR is USD 3,600 (Rs 2.43 lakh) more than a standard Ninja ZX-10R. This relatively small difference in price could be one of the reasons for the Ninja ZX-10RR popularity and the subsequent increase in production.
