After shocking everyone with the road legal Ninja H2, Kawasaki has unveiled two smaller capacity motorcycles - the Ninja 250SL and the Z250SL. Both these motorcycles have been developed for specific markets like Indonesia and won’t be sold everywhere. These bikes were already showcased in certain countries but this is the first time it has entered a prestigious event like the EICMA 2014.
The Z250SL is more of a cross between the Z250 and the Ninja 250SL. The SL stands for a sport light which is correct in case of this bike as it weighs 148kgs, thanks to the trellis frame and lack of fairing. The overall design cues are not very aggressive but the motorcycle has been designed to target young sport enthusiasts. The Ninja 250SL on the other hand is a full-faired version of the Z250SL which doesn’t look as aggressive as the Ninja 300.
Both the bikes get the same engine, a 249cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled fuel-injected engine that produces 27.6bhp at 9700rpm and maximum torque of 23Nm at 8200rpm. This engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox that transfers power to the rear wheel via a chain drive.
India Kawasaki Motors recently launched the Z250 and as far as we know, the Ninja 250SL and the Z250SL will never be sold in India.
