Few days ago we reported about the bookings being open for the Kawasaki Versys 1000. Now, we have managed to get few pictures of the Japanese tourer that is on display at their Pune showroom, making us believe the launch is imminent.
The Versys 1000 will be the first motorcycle from the Japanese manufacturer under the touring segment, after the Ninja and the Z series. It is looking to tap into the growing high capacity touring segment in India, as the Triumph Tiger series (Tiger 800XC and Tiger Explorer) has shown some tremendous potential.
The new Versys 1000 gets a 1043cc engine that produces 120bhp and 102Nm. The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox that transfers power to the rear-wheels via a chain drive. The 2015 version gets KTRC traction control system, but we are not sure if India Kawasaki Motors will offer this in the Indian- spec model. We say this because the Z1000 didn’t come with traction control but the Ninja 1000 did. But we would like to be optimistic in this regard. For its touring nature, the Versys 1000 gets adjustable windshield, wide handlebars and upright riding position, which will help you ride for long distances.
The company has already started taking bookings for the Versys 1000, with deliveries expected to begin from early next month. We are expecting the bike to be priced somewhere between Rs 13 lakh and Rs 15 lakh as it is a completely-built-up (CBU). Other than Kawasaki’s own outlet, this bike won’t be sold anywhere, not even pro-biking showrooms. And just like its other CBU motorcycles, expect the Versys 1000 to come only with one colour option – Black.
