Kawasaki has launched the Versys X 250 in Indonesia priced at IDR 61.9 million (Rs 3.15 lakh). Powered by a quarter-litre version of the Versys X 300’s parallel-twin engine, the Versys X 250 is also available in a ‘Tourer’ version equipped with a few touring-friendly accessories.
Like the Versys X 300, the Versys X 250 has been built around a new chassis. It draws styling cues from the bigger Versys models, though the powertrain has more in common with twin-cylinder Ninja 250. This liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine delivers 30bhp and 21.7Nm of torque through a six-speed transmission. The instrument console gets an analogue tachometer and two LCD screens.
The Versys X 250 rides on 41mm telescopic front forks and a rear monoshock. It is offered with 19-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke wheels. ABS is standard. The Tourer version gets a fairing guard, panniers, auxiliary lamps and knuckle guards for an additional IDR million (Rs 55,000).
While Kawasaki has refused to comment on this, the Indian market is expected to get the bigger Versys X 300 which was unveiled at the 2016 EICMA Show. Apart from the Royal Enfield Himalayan, it will also compete with the other upcoming adventure touring motorcycles like the BMW G310 GS and the Suzuki V-Strom 250.
