It is no secret that Kawasaki is considering launching the Versys X-300 in India. We were the first to catch a test mule being tested in India a few months back. Recently, another test mule was spotted testing and it appears that Kawasaki is working towards localising the X-300 in India. That would be imperative to keep costs in check. Here are some of the highlights of the bike that were spotted on the test bike.
Relaxed riding position
The Kawasaki X-300 is conceived as a touring ADV and that is clear in the way one is seated on the bike. The test rider you see here is seated in an upright riding position with an easy reach to the high mount handlebar. The footpeg is in a neutral position and this riding posture should help take the fatigue out of long distance rides.
296cc, parallel-twin engine
The Versys X-300 is powered by the Ninja 300’s engine. This 296cc, parallel-twin engine is known for its tractability and refinement. It also doesn’t mind being revved and that should make for a sporty engine in the X-300. Let’s not forget that the reason why Kawasaki is localising the Versys X-300 is because it wants to take on the new KTM 390 Adventure that is set to be unveiled in the coming months.
Heavy localisation
By managing to localise a lot of parts and components, Kawasaki should be able to price the Versys X-300 competitively. We can expect to see locally sourced fairing and body panels. The tyres on the bike appear to be MRFs or CEAT made. The bike rides on 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wire-spoke rims. Braking duties will be taken care of by 290mm disc at the front and a 220mm disc at the rear.
