The Kawasaki Versys-X 300 marks the Japanese manufacturer’s entry in the small capacity adventure touring segment. The price tag of Rs 4.6 lakhs (ex-showroom) might make it an expensive proposition, but the lack of similar products gives Kawasaki a monopoly in this market space. The Versys-X 300 gets all the traditional adventure styling cues like a towering stance, narrow profile, upswept exhaust and spoke wheels.
The Versys-X 300’s slim tank and seat, narrow profile and the wide handlebar make it easy to stand up and ride.
It gets a tail rack which allows you to mount additional luggage. However, the tank isn’t made of metal which means carrying a tank bag wouldn’t be easy.
The instrument console gets an analogue tachometer coupled with a digital display with a speedometer, gear indicator, clock and a fuel consumption readout.
At the heart of the Versys-X 300 is the same 296cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine, similar to the one used in the Ninja 300.
While the power output is marginally higher at 29.3bhp, the torque figure is lower at 25.7Nm. The engine is mated to a six-speed transmission.
Kawasaki makes no bones about the fact that the Versys-X was not designed for off-road use. However, it does get 19-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke wheels.
Kawasaki is offering a single hard case pannier and auxiliary lamps as standard. The list of optional accessories includes hand guards and engine guard.
