Kawasaki India has launched its most-affordable, road-legal motorcycle, the W175 in our market with prices starting from Rs 1,47,000, ex-showroom. The new W175 competes in the same price range as the Royal Enfield Hunter 350 and the TVS Ronin and here we bring you the top five highlights from the India launch of this motorcycle.
Retro Styling
The new Kawasaki W175 draws styling cues from its bigger sibling, the W800. Thus, this motorcycle packs styling features such as a round headlight, tear-drop-shaped fuel tank, single-piece seat, basic pillion grabrail, peashooter exhaust, and wire-spoke wheels. These wheels are wrapped in tube-type tyres. Kawasaki India will offer the motorcycle in two versions – Standard and Special Edition. The standard version is available in Ebony paint while the Special Edition is offered in Candy Persimmon Red.
Engine
The new W175 is the smallest-displacement, road-legal motorcycle in Kawasaki India’s portfolio. It is powered by a BS6-compliant 177cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine. Linked to a five-speed gearbox, the motor is tuned to deliver a maximum output of 12.8bhp at 7,500rpm and a peak torque of 13.2Nm at 6,000rpm. Do note that while it does not pack segment-leading power output, it is lightweight and tips the weighing scale at just 135kg (kerb).
Features
The feature list is bare-basic here, and the India-spec W175 gets a halogen headlight, halogen taillight, and conventional blinkers. Unlike the international version that uses a fully-analogue instrument cluster, the India spec W175 gets a small LCD in the instrument cluster. The safety net comprises a single-channel ABS.
Hardware
The W175 is built around a double-cradle chassis and it uses telescopic front forks and twin rear springs to handle the suspension tasks. The anchoring setup includes a single 270mm petal-type rotor at the front and a 110mm drum brake at the back.
Price
The base model has been priced at Rs 1,47,000 while the Special Edition, which features a bold paint theme, is available at Rs 1,49,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi prices). This puts the motorcycle against the newly launched and more powerful Royal Enfield Hunter 350. Interested in knowing the alternatives to the Kawasaki W175 in a similar price range?
