The new Kawasaki W230 was unveiled recently to the world. The modern-classic motorcycle looks like a scaled-down version of the beautiful Kawasaki W800, which in turn is inspired by the 1960s W1 motorcycle. Here is a look at the details of the bike through these images.
The design of the Kawasaki W230 is one of its defining features. It looks straight out of an era when black and white television was alive in people’s homes. From the round LED headlight, to the teardrop-shaped fuel tank, the seat and the curved fenders, everything screams retro. The bike looks good in the Metallic Ocean Blue colour.
The bike is powered by a 233cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that makes 18.98Nm at 5,800rpm. It is paired with a six-speed gearbox.
As for the chassis, the W230 uses a semi-double, cradle steel frame that is suspended by a 37mm telescopic fork and twin shock absorbers at the rear. It rides on an 18-inch front and 17-inch rear wire-spoke wheels.
Braking duties, meanwhile, are taken care of by a 265mm disc at the front and a 220mm disc at the rear. The bike gets ABS as standard.
While Kawasaki has not made any announcements yet, the W230 should make for an interesting launch in India. If Kawasaki manages to localise the bike to quite an extent, they can get the pricing to be competitive. Perhaps, it will then take on the might of the Royal Enfield Classic 350 range.
