India Kawasaki Motors has added a new motorcycle to its product portfolio for India. Christened the ‘W800 STREET’, it’s a retro-styled motorcycle that has been launched carrying a sticker price of Rs 7.99 lakhs, ex-showroom. Successor to the 1966’s model, the W800 STREET belongs to the iconic W series of motorcycles by the Japanese bike maker.
Keeping true to the tradition, the W800 features an old-school design language that is inspired by the iconic W1 and accentuated by high-quality solid-looking metal parts. It has smooth flowing lines that further amplify the appeal of the motorcycle. It has a round headlamp with a modern LED lamp, sculpted fuel tank and a pair of chromed exhaust pipes. It sports a retro-styled twin-pod instrument console that is accompanied by a multi-functional LED screen. The riding stance offered by the W800 is a relaxed vintage style which gives the rider the feel of riding a motorcycle from the 60’s era. While the design of the W800 might be a flashback to retro-styled motorcycles, in terms of mechanicals, it comes well addressed with modern technology and handling attributes.
Built around a double-cradle chassis, the W800 STREET is powered by a 773 air-cooled parallel-twin motor that comes mated to a five-speed gearbox. While its max power isn’t divulged by Kawasaki, it is capable of producing a peak torque figure of 62.9Nm at 4,800rpm. The setup is fuel-injected and is assisted by a slipper clutch.
In the case of cycle parts, the W800 comes equipped with chunky 41mm telescopic forks for the front and twin shocks with preload adjustability. For braking, the motorcycle employs a 320mm single disc with a two-piston caliper. The rear features a 270mm disc also with a two-piston caliper. The setup is equipped with dual-channel ABS. To stay in line with the bike’s retro appeal, it rides on 18-inch aluminium spoke wheels with 100/90 (front) and 130/80 (rear) section tyres.
Kawasaki is offering the W800 STREET with the choice of only one colour shade- Metallic flat spark black/Metallic matte graphite grey. As far as bookings are concerned, interested buyers can get in touch with the nearest Kawasaki dealer or inquire for the same through the company’s official website. Since the production of the bike is limited for the first lot, the booking window will be closed once the expected number is achieved. Kawasaki will commence deliveries of the new motorcyle from mid-August 2019.
