- Could be launched later with the OBD2 compliance
- Currently, no stock is available
- Could also be discontinued due to low demand
The Kawasaki W800 has been temporarily removed from the brand’s Indian website. We’ve reached out to the officials for a comment on the same but are yet to hear from them. Till then, here’s what we know.
As we approach April 2023, the Indian two-wheeler market is going under a slight shift as all the internal combustion engines are supposed to meet the OBD2 compliance norms. This means the manufacturers need to equip their bikes/scooters with OBD2 sensors to monitor real-time emissions over the lab-drawn results. So, this could be one of the reasons why the retro Kwacker is off the shelves currently.
Moreover, our dealer sources have revealed that the bike’s unavailable in the inventory. Not to mention, the W800’s demand was low in our market so it wouldn’t be a surprise if Kawasaki plans to sell only the W175 in India going forward. The W800 even got a massive discount of Rs 1.25 lakh, back in December 2022 in a bid to boost sales.
Lastly, if you are out for a retro-styled motorcycle in the same category, then there are other options like the Triumph Bonneville T100 and the T120. Both are priced significantly higher than the last known price of the W800 (Rs 7.3 lakh). So, you can also consider the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 as an affordable alternative in the same class.
