Kawasaki has launched the Z650 in Indonesia at IDR 159.9 million (Rs 8.15 lakh). Going by Kawasaki’s track record, we can expect India to be next in line to get this middleweight streetfighter.
A successor to the Kawasaki ER-6n, the Z650 gets a major design overhaul along with the new moniker. Built around a new trellis frame shared with the new Ninja 650, the Z650’s new design aligns it with the rest of the ‘Z’ range. The instrument cluster gets an LCD panel with a funky digital needle for the tachometer. The Z650 is powered by a Euro IV-compliant 649cc parallel-twin engine, delivering 69bhp and 72Nm of torque. The new frame is significantly lighter than before, and has helped the Z650 shed 19 kilograms. The 17-inch wheels ride on telescopic front forks and a centrally positioned rear monoshock. ABS is offered as standard.
The Kawasaki Z650 is globally offered in two paint schemes- pearl white and black, though the Indian market might get only one of these. With a launch expected in early 2017, the Kawasaki Z650 will share the market space with the likes of the Harley-Davidson Street 750 and the Benelli TNT 600i.
