The Kawasaki Z650 RS aims to be a properly old-school motorcycle with modern equipment to the mix. We recently rode and reviewed it and you can read all about that HERE. Until till, here’s a detailed image gallery with all the pictures from the Z650 RS Roadtest Review.
The Z650 RS draws inspiration from the Kawasaki Z650 B1 from 1977 and comes very close to it. With the minimal design of the bodywork and flashes of chrome here and there, the RS does look retro. Its classic green shade matched with golden wheels that replicate wire spoke wheels look cool.
However, underneath a body that harks back to the 70s lays a 649cc, parallel-twin engine borrowed from the Z650 and Ninja 650. While it puts out the same numbers, Kawasaki says that is has been tuned for low and mid-range performance.
Well, the Z650 RS sure is punchy all through the rev band. But what we liked was its tractability. Even though it is a high-capacity motor, it managed to trod at 2100rpm in 6th gear without a complaint.
To complement its performance is its handling. It isn’t the sharpest but is easy to turn in. While its tyres could offer more grip, the Z650 RS still is fun around corners. Even the brakes are fantastic with sharp bite and progression.
In terms of features, the Z650 RS is equipped just enough to make it modern. There is full-LED lighting and a digital display between the analogue speedo and tachometer. It also gets ABS but misses out on connectivity or the TFT dash that the Z650 gets.
The Kawasaki Z650 RS is for someone looking for a retro motorcycle that offers the refinement and technology of today. But at Rs 6.72 lakh, it does come at a premium of nearly Rs 48,000 over the Z650.
