- Recall concerning fault brake wiring.
- 1,173 units affected.
- Unclear if the bikes sold in India have been affected.
Kawasaki has issued a recall for its streetfighter and modern-retro motorcycles, the Z900 and Z900 RS in the US.
This recall affects 1,173 units and concerns the bikes’ rear brake wiring and rear wheel rotation sensor to be incorrectly setup. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the wire may be damaged if it comes in contact with the tyre thus reducing the bike’s braking abilities. Meanwhile, with a defective rotation sensor wire, the Z900’s ABS might not work properly.
As a countermeasure the manufacturer will replace any damaged components and correct the wiring free of charge. There is no confirmation if this recall affects the Z900 and Z900 RS sold in India, however we recommend checking with your nearest dealerships regarding the same.
The Z900 sports a streetfighter body style and a striking semblance to the Z800, the bike it replaced. On the other hand, the Z900 RS is a modern –retro café racer based on the Z900 although with styling inspired from the Kawasaki Z1 of the ‘90s. Both bikes use a 948cc, inline-four engine although with different power outputs. While the Z900 produces 123bhp and 98Nm, the Z900 RS’s unit puts out 108bhp and 98.5Nm. They are priced at Rs 7.68 lakh and Rs 15.30 lakh respectively.
