- Credible response to the 125 Duke.
- Customers upgrading from scooters.
- Price margin between 200 Duke is a major contributing factor.
The KTM 125 Duke was launched in India last year in November, priced at Rs 1.18 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). This not only makes the 125 Duke the most affordable KTM in the country but also the most accessible.
And according to dealerships across the country, this accessibility has worked well in favour of the 125 Duke, with bookings shooting past the 200 Duke in some cities. One of the main reasons for the existence of the 125 Duke is to induct customers into the KTM brand. Majority of its consumer base comes from young buyers wanting to upgrade from scooters. Another reason for its popularity is the huge margin of Rs 42,000 from the 200 Duke which retails at Rs 1.60 lakhs.
The KTM 125 Duke was expected to be the same as the international-spec model and sport a design similar to the 390 Duke. However, KTM India using economies of scale to its advantage styled the 125 Duke exactly like the 200 Duke. In terms of competition, the 125 Duke with its ABS and inverted front forks has an edge over the Yamaha YZF-R15 S which misses out on these features.
