- KTM 125 Duke sold 2,228 units in May
- Shows marginal yet consistent growth since launch
- Yamaha MT-15 sales decline for last month
KTM introduced the 125 Duke in the Indian market in November 2018. The motorcycle seemed to have a monopoly in that market space until the launch of the Yamaha MT-15 in March.
And while the 125 Duke managed to attract around 450 customers in the first month, the MT-15 took the market by storm with a sale of 5,203 units in its first month itself. Now, the KTM 125 Duke seems to have caught up with the MT-15 and outsold the latter in May with a sale of 2,228 units. Meanwhile, the Yamaha sold 2,048 units of the MT-15 in the same time. Ever since its launch, the 125 Duke has seen a marginal yet consistent growth even with consecutive price hikes that have increased the price to almost Rs 12,000 more than what it began with.
On the other hand, the price of the Yamaha MT-15 remains steady at Rs 1.36 lakhs (ex-showroom) although its sales numbers have seen a decline since its launch. It did start off with a bang in March but fizzled out in April with a sale of 3,823 units and barely 2,000 units in May. However, Yamaha India is aiming to attract customers with various offers and we hope to see the sales of the motorcycle pick-up again. It will be surely fascinating to see how the brawl between two small-capacity, premium motorcycles goes down in the coming months.
