KTM 200 Duke Old vs New: What’s Different?

The KTM 200 Duke was the Austrian bike maker’s first offering for the Indian market. The motorcycle had remained majorly unchanged since its introduction in 2012, until now. KTM updated the 200 Duke in January this year, bestowing it with a comprehensive makeover. In that case, we check out what are the differences between the old and new version of the naked street bike.

New-age styling

Apart from adorning it with a new set of stickers, KTM had retained the same styling of the 200 Duke for eight years straight. Although it was distinctive during the initial years, it had started to look dated. Taking this into consideration, KTM has lent it the same styling as the 250 Duke which is much sharper and aggressive than before. Moreover, enhancing its edgier design is a pair of new colour options with snazzy graphics and an orange/white sub-frame. 

Revised hardware and dimensions

The changes in the 200 Duke are beyond what meet the eye. It has been revised in terms of hardware and the biggest change comes in the form of a new split-type steel trellis frame, as opposed to the previous single unit chassis. The new setup makes it feel more agile while changing directions. Furthermore, the suspension travel of the upside down forks up front has gone up by 2mm for a better ride quality. 

The revisions in its cycle parts have brought along marginal changes in its dimensions. The seat height of the 200 Duke has gone up by 5mm while the ground clearance has reduced by 20mm. While the braking setup of the bike remains unchanged, the new dual-channel ABS from Bosch makes it safer now. Interestingly, the new version of the bike also has a longer range owing to the presence of a larger 13.5-litre fuel tank. 

BS6-compliant engine

Powering the new 200 Duke is the same 199.5cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine but with minor alterations for BS6 compliance. In spite of that, KTM has managed to keep its power figures unchanged at 25.1bhp and 19.5Nm. However, what affects its performance to some extent is the 11kg increase in its kerb weight which stands at 159kgs now. Transmission duties continued to be handled by a six-speed gearbox. 

Increased price

The 2020 KTM 200 Duke has been priced at Rs 1,72,749 (ex-showroom, Delhi). While this is a significant premium of Rs 10,496 over the previous model, it seems justified looking at the host of updates it has received which keep it fresh and desirable.
