- 200 Duke to get 390 Duke-like headlamp
- To get pricier by around Rs 3,000-5,000
- No other changes expected for now
KTM India will soon update its highly popular offering, the 200 Duke, with an LED headlamp, as revealed by our dealer sources. With this update, the motorcycle will also become slightly more expensive. As of now, KTM sells the 200 Duke at Rs 1.93 lakh (ex-showroom) and the introduction of the new headlamp will make it around Rs 3,000-5,000 dearer.
The KTM 200 Duke boasts the same sharp and aggressive bodywork as the bigger 250 Duke and the 390 Duke. However, the headlamp continues to be a basic halogen setup. This is a bit of a downer considering even 125cc bikes these days come equipped with an LED headlamp and KTMs are known to be premium offerings. Notably, the new LED headlamp will be identical to the one present on the 250 and 390cc KTMs, similar to the rest of the styling.
With the Austrian brand’s next-generation Duke platform nearing production, this might be KTM’s strategy of clearing the remaining inventory of the 200 Duke. In fact, we recently spotted the next-generation 390 Duke undergoing road test and it looked almost ready for production. Interestingly, this won’t be just a minor nip and tuck but a major overhaul with most of the hardware being all-new. The global unveil of the new Dukes is likely to take place towards the end of this year.
Besides the inclusion of an LED headlamp, the KTM 200 Duke will remain mechanically unchanged, at least for the time being. It’s underpinned by a steel trellis frame which is suspended by a WP Apex suspension setup. For braking, it employs ByBre brakes with dual-channel ABS. At the heart of the matter is a 199.5cc, liquid-cooled motor that produces 24.67bhp at 10,000rpm and 19.3Nm at 8,000rpm. The transmission duties are handled by a six-speed gearbox.
