KTM India recently launched two of its revamped offerings, the 390 Duke and the 250 Duke. While we have already told you about the 390, it is now time to address what the quarter-litre Duke feels like and whether you should buy it.
The KTM 250 Duke has received a generational update in 2023. This means a new design, new engine, revised hardware, more features and mechanical updates as well. Speaking of the visuals, the 250 Duke gets sportier and sharper body panels. Its fuel tank shrouds have gotten longer and the headlight too is new. However, the 250 Duke doesn’t get LED DRLs on the side like the 390 Duke.
Features-wise, KTM has added more to the 250 Duke’s arsenal. It uses LED illumination, an LCD screen with a multitude of readouts and smartphone connectivity. The latter gives you access to navigation and audio control.
The bike now comes with a bi-directional quickshifter which is butter-smooth and addictive. We ended up using it all the time we spent with the 250 Duke. Then, there is the supermoto ABS too which lets you slide the rear wheel under hard braking.
Powering the latest 250 Duke is a new engine. Yes, the latest model is equipped with a new engine that’s not an underbored version of the 390 Duke’s motor. It uses a single overhead cam setup (SOHC) and makes 31bhp and 25Nm. It is linked to a six-speed gearbox which feels quite intuitive.
That said, there are vibrations throughout the rev range in the footpegs. KTM has also altered the sprocket size. So, the rear unit gets a few teeth less and the overall gear ratios are longer. The mid-range performance of the 250 Duke enhances its usability. It also feels more spirited than before and filtering through traffic comes naturally to the bike.
KTM has equipped the 250 Duke with new MRF Brace tyres that offer impeccable grip. These inspire mighty confidence and allow you to ride without hesitation.
