KTM always marketed its motorcycles as “Ready to Race”. It basically means you go to the showroom, buy a motorcycle and then you are all set to race it. We now have two such motorcycles from the Duke range and two from their new RC series but it does not end there. The top honcho of KTM , Stefan Pierer confirmed that the next motorcycle launch in India will be a 250cc.
Now this makes us think really hard because we have the 200cc and the 390cc motorcycles already. So why would KTM want to launch another such motorcycle in India? Well, this is why the KTM 250 EXC is there on this news title. The Austrian manufacturer is serious about getting the adventure and motocross motorcycles to India as per Stefan Pierer. So there is a high chance of the 250 EXC making its way to the Indian market. This motorcycle segment is in its nascent stages and that’s why you don’t see any manufacturers selling these bikes in India officially but maybe KTM wants to be the first one. While the KTM 250 EXC is not road legal in the European market, we expect the same sales strategy to be applied in India. It may target the young motocross racer in the country but the bike won’t have a competitive price tag, like the RC200 and the RC390. But there is high chance of a road legal version to make its way to India. Also, if Bajaj manufactures these bikes in their Chakan facility for export, then the price could come down drastically.
The Bajaj-KTM alliance is very strong and both plans to be the biggest motorcycle company in the world. To achieve this, KTM is taking advantage of Bajaj’s power house production plant, and Bajaj is using KTM’s technology to power their range of Pulsars. But at the end, it’s the Indian consumers who will benefit from such alliances.
