- 390 Adventure likely to get a touring variant
- Test mule was equipped with alloy wheels
- Launch next year
The KTM 390 Adventure was finally spied in India for the first time. But a close look at the test mule reveals some new details.
KTM is likely to have two variants – an adventure variant and a touring variant. The test mule that was caught on camera was equipped with alloy wheels, whereas the test mule that was being tested in Europe carried spoke wheels. This makes us believe that the Austrian bike maker could offer two models for the Indian market.
In both instance, the test mules were equipped with 19-inch front wheel and 17-inch at the rear. While we did expect a 21-inch front wheel on the 390 ADV, it looks like KTM has decided to go with 19-inch front. The touring variant is likely to have less suspension travel at the front and rear, and maybe even a steeper rake angle than the ADV variant. The overall ground clearance is also likely to be comparatively lower.
It makes economic and financial sense for KTM to develop different variants using one platform. With two bikes on offer, it can maximise the economies of scale. In fact, Hero MotoCorp has taken the same approach. It will launch the XPulse 200 and the XPulse 200T in February.
